Where we are.
Both of us are at Michter’s in Shively. No tour, just the lobby pour and a look at where the 10 Year actually gets its time. Michter’s reputation isn’t an accident — the production decisions explain the bottles.
The detail.
What is Michter’s Distillery?
Michter’s is one of the most respected names in American whiskey. The pre-Prohibition lineage traces to Shenk’s (1753, Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania) and later Bomberger’s; the modern Michter’s brand was revived in 1996/97 by Joseph J. Magliocco and the late Dick Newman after the original distillery closed Valentine’s Day 1990. Production runs at the Michter’s Shively Distillery in Louisville (purchased 2012); the visitor center is Michter’s Fort Nelson Distillery at 801 W. Main Street on Whiskey Row.
The flagship lineup includes the US*1 series (Small Batch Bourbon, Single Barrel Rye, Sour Mash Whiskey, American Whiskey); annual limited releases of the 10 Year, 20 Year, and 25 Year follow. The brand’s tagline — ‘Cost is not a consideration’ — references the lower-than-industry barrel-entry proof and double-barreled production.
