What we publish, and what it is not

Everything here is journalism and commentary about the American whiskey industry. It is not investment, financial, legal or purchasing advice. Bottle prices, allocation odds and secondary-market figures are reporting on what has happened, not a forecast of what a bottle will be worth, and nothing here should be read as a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything.

Accuracy and corrections

Every figure we publish is computed from our own dated records and our method is published. We still get things wrong. When we do, the correction is published rather than quietly edited in — see the corrections policy, and the editorial standards for how sourcing works. If you hold better data on a figure, tell us and it will be reflected.

Age

This is a publication about distilled spirits and is intended for readers of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. Nothing here encourages excessive or irresponsible drinking.

Using our work

The words, audio, artwork and measurements are ours. Quote us, cite us and link to us freely — attribution and a link are all we ask, and figures from The Gauge are published expressly so they can be cited. What is not permitted is republishing whole issues or episodes as your own, or scraping the archive to rebuild the underlying record.

Links and third parties

We link to distilleries, retailers, filings and other publications. Those sites are not ours and we are not responsible for what they do, sell or say. Availability, pricing and allocation terms are set by the seller and change without notice.

No warranty

The site is provided as is. We do not guarantee that it will be available without interruption or that every figure is free of error, and to the extent the law allows we are not liable for losses arising from decisions made on the strength of anything published here.
