The positionProof. At Heaven Hill this June, going from their no-age-statement barrel proof up to an 18-year bottle costs you just $10 more — age is almost free now. And that 18-year is poured at 86 proof, the weakest thing in the whole limited lineup. When the oldest bottle on the shelf is also the lightest, they're stretching old stock they've stopped replacing, not selling you age.

The Standing Position
reopening 2026-06-12Every issue reopens the argument behind it and either defends it on the evidence since, or concedes it.
PARTLYPartly, and it splits by tier. New Riff BiB shipped at $44.99 and Dickel 13-Year at $54.99 the same week — ten dollars for seven years, the give-away I called at the entry rail. That leg holds. But my TTB-floor call is being falsified in front of me: the December floor rule was supposed to push distillers off precise year counts; instead they raced to print them — Elijah Craig 18, Old Fitzgerald BiB 11-Year, Wilderness Trail's 7-year wheated bond, and Knob Creek 18 all cleared TTB in one week, none reverting to the bare four-year minimum. And Old Fitzgerald's bonded 11-Year rose on secondary, $130-150 to $145-165 — age inside a bond appreciating, not given away. What settles it: whether any 2026 bond drops its year count by 31 December.
